Verbally, pretty well everyone agrees; for both the general run of people and the refined say that it is happiness, and assume that living well and faring well are the same thing as being happy; but with regard to what happiness is they differ, and the general run do not give the same account as men of understanding do. For the former think it is some clear and evident thing, like pleasure or riches or honour—some one thing and some another, and often the same man identifies it with different things (with health when he is ill, with riches when he is poor)
